Boone County breaks ground on new Public Safety Childcare Center

Children of Boone County's public safety employees will soon have a new space to stay while their parents are in the line of duty. The Boone County Public Safety Childcare Center will provide affordable, extended child care access to law enforcement and joint communications employees within Boone County government. Construction will begin in the summer of 2025 and is expected to be completed by the fall.

MU breaks ground on meat education and training center

The state's only teaching and working laboratory focused on meat processing was celebrated at the University of Missouri's Trowbridge Livestock Center on Friday.The Michael L. Parson Meat Science Education and Training Laboratory, named in honor of former Gov. Mike Parson, will be MU's newest addition to the College of Agriculture, Food & Natural Resources and the state's only teaching and working laboratory focused on meat processing.

Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek made a stop in Boone County as part of his statewide tour promoting MO ABLE, a program that helps Missouri residents with disabilities.Malek spoke to staff at the Boone County Family Resources office, addressing around 50 people. Tornado rips off roofs, downs trees and power lines in Pilot Grove SW of Columbia

A tornado that hit Pilot Grove before 9 a.m. Wednesday did serious damage to buildings and vehicles before heading north to down trees and power lines along a 6.3-mile path.No casualties or injuries were reported, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

City of Refuge takes on additional resettlement services in mid-Missouri

Development programs for refugees once offered by local Catholic Charities will now be provided by City of Refuge and the Missouri Office of Refugee Administration.The Central and Northern Missouri chapter of Catholic Charities ended its resettlement program last month after 14 years.

Columbia breaks 104-year temperature record, faces dramatic weather shift

Columbia experienced a record-breaking high of 82 degrees Tuesday, surpassing a 104-year-old record, with forecasts predicting a dramatic weather shift that could bring snow less than 24 hours later.The previous record of 81 degrees was set in 1921, according to National Weather Service data.

MU names new vice provost for enrollment management

Steve Robinson will be the new vice provost for enrollment management at the University of Missouri this coming academic year, according to a university news release Tuesday.Robinson will succeed Rhonda Gibler, who has served as interim vice provost for the Division of Enrollment Management since August.

Rep. Alford calls to relocate SBA Kansas City office to Columbia

U.S. Rep. Mark Alford, R-Mo, has called for the relocation of the Small Business Administration's regional Kansas City office to Columbia.Alford, the chairperson of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Regulations, sent a letter calling for the move to SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler on Tuesday.

Main Squeeze reopens, returns to a plant-based cafe
