Mike Parson on Friday announced the appointment of Jayne Pearman of Centralia as the Division XI associate circuit judge in the 13th Circuit Court. Pearman will fill the seat left by Stephanie Morrell, who left the Division XI associate seat vacant when she was elected as Division III 13th Circuit Court Judge in November, according to previous Missourian reporting.

Second suspect arrested in Clark Lane homicide

On Tuesday, the Columbia Police Department arrested a second suspect connected to the Oct. 20 homicide on Clark Lane.Daevion McCray, 21, of Columbia was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

Council rezones property along Scott Blvd for future multifamily housing

Residents showed up in force Monday night to oppose a plan to rezone property near the intersection of Scott Boulevard and Smith Drive on Columbia’s west side.Despite the objections, the City Council unanimously approved the rezoning, which now allows for the future construction of apartments on the south side of Smith Drive, just south of an existing mixed-use area that includes a Moser’s grocery store and The Westbury Senior Living complex.

Mother sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to abandoning baby in tire

The mother of the baby who was found dead in a backpack inside a tire was sentenced to five years of probation Monday. Lavosha Daniels pleaded guilty to abandonment of a corpse and first-degree involuntary manslaughter in November.Boone County Circuit Judge Kevin Crane presided over the hearing and issued the sentence.
